Enroll in local educational opportunities that interest you (usually towns mail out flyers periodically with the info). Volunteer your time at charitable organizations. Depending on your industry you could look into chamber of commerce events (Bangor has a chamber offshoot that caters specifically to young professionals and has periodic social events and recreational sports leagues). Look into the eSports scene as there are a few local organizations trying to get off the ground. Start going to local tcg shops for events that interest you (DnD, Warhammer, MTG, etc..)

Two glaring inadequacies are housing and we'll paying jobs. Those restaurants and venues don't pay enough to live in Bangor with the current rental market. Let alone buy anything. And aside from Bangor savings, northern light, UMO, and the insurance companies there aren't many good jobs to be had. What Bangor could really use is another large employer's headquarters and to have that near vacant mall and other empty properties turned into affordable housing. But instead we have a culture that opposes big business moving in and some chode from New York building luxury apartments nobody can afford.

One of my college buddies from NYC hit a deer and was freaking out. Then proceeded to freak out even more when the cop who came to the accident scene asked if he wanted to keep it🤣.

The even more hilarious thing is that they are historically wrong when they (even southerners) claim the "heritage" bullshit. The stars and bars was never the flag of the CSA. It was a little used naval jack towards the end of the war that was co-opted by the racist dixie-crats during the jim crow era. So that flag has literally ONLY been used to represent racism in this country (save for being on a ship or two for like a few months before it was replaced with the white flag of surrender)

Bangor is a VERY charming city. It has a ton of potential too. There are just massive issues with housing affordability and a lack of social services funding. This combined with a lot of NIMBY folks who don't want to do anything about either of those issues has made the urban decay quite pronounced.

I'm just glad I don't have to hear anymore ads on the radio during my drive to work. Like most millennials I don't have cable and recently was able to afford the ad free versions of all my streaming services so the last bastion of unbearable political ads was the radio. Once I heard that garbage ad Paul lepage ran on the radio 3 times on my 20 minute commute.
