I like that it's going the direction of the b2d instead of trying to squeeze into the Khan and zero space, I was not interested in buying it before but I am now, still needs to have a price around those other two

Reply to Stupid question? Why were the 60s/70s the golden age of amps but the headphones were so terrible? by solid12345
I mean they look nice, but they performed pretty poor, much like the headphones of that era, you can beat them in power, distortion, noise floor, and whatever else for fractions of the price in both solid state and tubes now adays

Yes and I'm sure you've never once criticized the price of an expensive item you didn't desire, I'm such a complainer.
Just as I'm sure you've never questioned a companies decision to make something less consumer friendly and proprietary

That's not what I said
If they didn't use a more expensive design that includes magnets then 3rd party options would be more plentiful and likley easier to diy without having to worry about damaging more expensive pads or a mounting/magnet system
Lots of headphones have proprietary pad designs, but most dont require additional mounting rigs, you can get a 3d printed rig like you can for audeze or monolith that accept universal pads, but I'm not sure if that's possible for these

I guess that's the point, they make a proprietary system so you can't buy/effectively use other pads without modding and have to pay hundreds for their special ones

260$ for pads, crazy. I wonder how they measure now

Yeah audeze has quite a contrast in build between their lower cost items and the high ones

Schiits new magni has proper dc protection, and they're cheap, cant help you with cheap tubes, but many exist, they do objectively have worse distortion and such measurements, but do add character

I wouldn't say better, but the s amp is great for the price and it does boost low end on some models

I usually either use a dark voice or magni heresy, or my phone which has a proper amp.
It works well and because of it's higher OI, it reaches comfortable sounds earlier then the magni

The Samson s amp has a 100 ohm OI, It's pretty cheap and works well, I'm not sure of it's exact measurements but it works well enough

Diy audio heaven measures headphones with varying OI
https://diyaudioheaven.wordpress.com/headphones/measurements/brands-a-i/dt880-edition-600%cf%89/
The 600ogm 880 does not change, some lower impedance headphones may, here is the 560s
https://diyaudioheaven.wordpress.com/headphones/measurements/brands-s-se/hd-560s/
It's possible that higher OI amps may on their own add warmth, or mess with distortion in some way to increase perception of low end
I find that higher OI amps can power higher impedance headphones easier

I got the pr1 with the plan to just eq, then this came out so I got it too, with the same eq first idea but it would seem like the stock tuning is improved along with the sensitivity. I'll probably let one of the go but a planar for these prices is quite a deal, even if just got the ew potential

Sorry, I can't listen to this at 96db because the headphones I have deviate from Harman 2db in the bass, 3db in the mids, and 3db in the trebel, they're practically useless and cannot be enjoyed
