Jumping off the cliff only works in Cdramas - otherwise you will hit subsurface rocks and be a paraplegic.

Really awesome, and I mean it in the most superb way, anime series from 2004. "Gankutsuou", based on the Dumas novel and rendered in an art style based on Western Impressionism and Japanese Ukiyo-e. Piercingly beautiful and worth every minute. (Not a film, I know, and science fiction to boot, but if only one person here follows up and is moved, then one of my soul's bucket list tasks is done.)
