While this is true, I find it especially interesting when it comes to archaeology. Drawing conclusions from material remains that are thousands of years old seems to be a shaky business, it doesn't make sense to be so stubborn about new discoveries.

Feel like there are some weird "noble savage" vibes in this view of crime. Yes, we need to address the conditions that increase the likelihood that someone will commit a crime. But after someone has made the decision to drag a human to their death over some money, I think the view that they simply just need lessons in how to be a civilized human is fucking stupid. Lock them up.

I used to work in IT. I'm sure he thought he selected the "no tip" option. But someone accidentally held their finger on the "4" key and most of these systems only allow input from the customer-facing side.

Keeping billions and billions of land animals cooped up in incredibly dense aka "highly efficient" factory farms requires massive amounts of antimicrobial drugs, and even that isn't enough to keep pandemics from spreading in such terrible, unsanitary conditions. We've made a series of mistakes with animal agriculture, and things are really bleak.
The good news is that humans can greatly reduce or even eliminate their consumption of animal products while still meeting their nutritional needs. There is a better future out there.

I mean, its true. We're inundated with warnings. But honestly, who would let "keep out of reach of children" stop them from giving deodorant to their (stinky) teen?
The parents want to believe the only way this tragedy could have been stopped is if the manufacturer had been more responsible. But the best chance to stop this tragedy was not by avoiding giving the deodorant to her in the first place, but by taking it away from her when it became clear she wasn't using it safely and appropriately.
