VT has more than pulled their weight for the ACC since joining. Believe it is the only school with ACC championships in Football, Basketball and Women’s hoops. Not bad for a school that was overlooked the first 50 years of the ACC and looked down at as an original candidate for expansion. Now time to win the natty so everyone can shutup about them never having a national championship in any team sport. VT should build a statue of Mark Warner for forcing UVAs hand to make them join the ACC.

As someone’s whose rented forever here, I’ve had good experiences with Thalhimer, not cheap but at least responsive and up to date on fixing things in my experience. Avoid RVA group like the plague. Independent landlords the way to go though.

Got a measly raise of 150 a month. Only for my rent to go up by the same price. It took me years of shitty landlords like Billy Jefferson and Brian Hall to find a good landlord. At least it’s not a shitty management company and a decent landlord who isn’t fleecing me by raising rent every year. I do miss the days of my bungalow in Maymont when it was 750 a month rent, as recently as 2016.

Ralph Sampson in conjunction with the community helped build that playground IIRC. Remember going to a basketball camp/clinic at Arthur Ashe center and winning the rebounding award and a giant check being presented for the playground. I remember being really upset for having to wear a purple shirt and took my aggression out on the backboard. Have a picture of me and Sampson somewhere and I’m so short I don’t even reach his waste.

Our poor roads haven’t just been a problem the past few years because of just mismanagement, it’s been an ongoing problem that STARTED with the tax base being crippled and has now continued on as we have elevated our tax base. If you want to nitpick what exact year between 2008-now go for it, but i’m not arguing that the tax base is currently decimated.

Not for the last 40 years, the last few absolutely, which I mentioned they pissed away spectacularly.

I don’t even think we mill the roads when we resurface them in the city. Add in 100 year old infrastructure with all the old pipes and rails and stuff. Along with a virtually non-existent tax base to keep up maintenance for roughly 40 years and a bunch of ass clowns at city hall pissing away the new revenue, you too can have significantly worse roads than your municipal counterparts.

Glad to see the indoor courts will get used when the team isn’t using them. Pretty insane we’re the only city our size in the country without one, the home of Arthur Ashe. If i’m a student i’m pissed about them athletic fees though, and I say this as a former student athlete and huge sports fan. The expenses of D1 sports have increased exponentially over the years and most sports don’t generate revenue at the division I level and would be non operational without these fees subsidizing them. The days of VCU, like many things in this city, being affordable are becoming distant memories. It’s insanity that schools charter flights to places like Charlotte or Philly for a basketball game when a bus would get them back in a day, all while charging these fees to students.
