Usually movie games were made to be out relatively close to the movie release.
It was already very hard to release a good game in the given timeframe, but with dev time getting quite longer now, it might be a big struggle to have something at least decent, also a bad game can get a lot more bad press these days than back then, could really hurt the brand more than the need to have a game.
