I have a similar Mountainsmith backpack (red rock 25) I used it every day in middle school, high school, and now college.
Although I have recently switched to the mountain hardware J Tree 22 due to its functional bucket bag design. Both are definitely buy it for life items

You may consider “duck boots” I have had good experiences. Not exactly summer where, but they should be on your radar.
