Suspect sentenced

I know very few hit and runs get investigated and as far as I know the issue is more on the investigative (or the lack there-off) side. But now that criticism is morphing into “even those arrested” don’t do anytime. Which yeah, am sure they are cases where the person possibly got of with just probation. Pretty sure you have cases in mind for you to believe that nobody does time for hit and runs, but am going to go out on a limb and say whatever case you have in mind varies greatly to an incident involving 20+ people injured.

Granted most of the cases I linked involve fatalities. But not much precedent in NYC in regards to hit and runs in which 20+ people are injured. I can only think of two. That guy who rammed people in Times Square and was found to be unfit for court and is now confined to a nuthouse. And the U-haul truck incident, which was a terror attack.

Many hit and run drivers are repeat offenders. As is the case with most crime, its people that have been repeatedly arrested/cited over and over again.

Man, 47, charged with driving with suspended license in Staten Island crash that killed 3 teens

The guy already had a suspended license (either due to the accumulation of numerous tickets or previous arrest), he kept on driving. Since he stayed at the scene he avoided more serious charges and was released the same day. He probably out driving still with a suspended license.

“The defendant has been released on his own recognizance and is due back in Criminal Court on Aug. 18, according to public records.”

Motorist whose girlfriend died in freak NYC car fall had suspended license: cops

Webcrims case update showing above driver was immediately released on recognizance

Last I check most street safety advocates demand better infrastructure instead of arresting drivers because the latter contributes to the “prison state”.

But suspended drivers who cause a fatal accident should do time in prison. People who leave the scene of an accident should do time. Licensed individuals who stay at the scene, i think that should be handled civilly.

The guy was not even fare beating. He was just trying to exit thru the emergency door. And no, these guards don’t have authority to ticket anybody. They are just there as a presence and MTA hopes that people won’t jump the turnstiles upon seeing them. Pretty sure the city/MTA does not want these guards engaging physically with fare beaters in anyway.

For the year murders and shootings are down. And over the course of the last month nearly all crime is down across the board. The period of Nov 2021 thru May 2022 was the peak of pandemic crime. The year to year comparisons starting in 2023 are going to become very favorable.

The question is then going to shift to how will it take for crime to reach pre-pandemic levels or will a new level become the baseline. In the case of shootings and murders assuming they continue to decrease at a 12%-17% rate it would take between 2-3 years from now to reach pre-pandemic levels of murders and shootings.

As 12/18 there were 414 murders, representing a decrease of 13%. Before the pandemic, NYC had back to back years of sub 300 murders. If murders continue the 13% yearly decrease the sub 300 number will be reach around early 2025.

No, he essentially was regulated to desk duty since January (when wife was arrested) until he retired in August. He can’t associate with felons. If she is convicted either he and her better move out. But being regulated to desk duty in the as the process plays out seems fair. Though clearly he disagrees.

Gangbanger tied to high-end NYC heists gets sweetheart deal from DA Alvin Bragg

“Charles Lindsay — a reputed member of the “Rich Fam” gang, which has a history of pulling off pricey robberies — was last hauled into court Dec. 10 for allegedly stealing nearly $25,000 in pricey handbags and other items from Madison Avenue boutiques, according to sources and court records

Lindsay, 22, is also a suspect in the rape of a 15-year-old girl in May in Brooklyn, as well as a February grand larceny and a robbery in March, sources said.

But in court last week, prosecutors agreed to drop the four grand larceny charges against Lindsay if just attends five sessions with Manhattan Justice Opportunities, an alternative sentencing program designed for low-level offenders.”

Steals 25K worth of property and has to attend five sessions. What incentive does he have to stop?

Only thing consistent about CPS is there under funding and large caseloads. 67% of their caseload is following up on unfounded cases the result of mandatory reporting. I would imagine quite a bit of those unfounded cases consist of situations like you describe involving your friend.

Imagine if they went the full throttle in regards to your friends and allocated multiple visits and resources to that case. That would have been another case not being investigated.

Since the writer cares about traffic violence am sure she aware of the increase in traffic fatalities and pedestrians being struck by vehicles that have occurred in the pandemic. A similar increase has been documented in regards to crime incidents on the subway.

Does she care about data or “feelings”. When was the last time somebody argue “traffic fatalities were worse in the 80s” or “LA has a bigger traffic problem and that NYC is fine” to dismiss the increase in traffic fatalities that have occurred during the pandemic?

But a similar increase occurs in regards to shootings, transit incidents, recidivism, etc and you have a decent amount of people hell bent on dismissing that as “it was worse in the 80s” or “it’s actually more dangerous in Arkansas than NYC”.

And the author, a White millennial with a short commute is exactly the type of person I expect that is clamoring to fill this survey.

Almost never fails. Its always the White person that lives in a good neighborhood trying to tell everybody they are wrong.

The attention got to the DA office. His court arraignment finally updated and he was held 50k Bond/5k Cash bail. Top charge is for felony criminal mischief. DA office keeping somebody in custody when the top charge is a property crime is far from the norm in regards to DA offices.

For comparison, on his misdemeanor menacing arrest from 2021 where he menace somebody with a knife he was released under supervision.

The suspect was previously arrested menacing somebody with a knife. If he was not held after threatening somebody with knife, nothing going to happen with him breaking a couple of windows.

When he inevitably gets arrested once again you will once again be asking “why didn’t police stop this repeat offender who been arrested numerous times from committing another crime”.

Which you seem to be yourself. And once again, hispanic ain’t a race. The fact that you are not comprehending this suggest to me you ain’t even hispanic but just some White person trying to act like a savior.

You can drop the White Savior act now. To emphasize, both George Zimmerman and David Ortiz are both hispanic. If you think they are the same race, they you need to get your eyes checked.

There a wide gap between perfect and keeping people with a documented history of violence off the streets. Like the guy mentioned in the 2nd example. There is reason you latched on the first example only.

What’s the reason for Nash “slipping by”? Arrest in multiple states including for robbery. Randomly assaulting people in the streets.

It seems like every subway shover that been arrested is somebody with 10+ arrest that just happen to slip by as well. Seems like your willing to accept that as the norm cause “no system is perfect”. Most New Yorkers won’t.

Remanding repeat violent offenders into custody does not mean locking everybody up like in 80s. It’s literally the exact opposite.
