My top five and my suggestions for five aren't the same, for what it's worth. I've never been to Alaska and Hawaii and assume most people are referring to the contiguous states. For the sake of diversity:

Yellowstone, Zion, Everglades, Olympic, Gateway Arch Mammoth Cave

I spend a lot of time hiking long trails. This year, one of the trails I did was the Appalachian Trail. One of the things I hear constantly in the backpacking world is that the AT "has no views." And a lot of the time, that's true. You aren't constantly led toward huge vistas like the other big trails. You have to work for them.

Here is one of the many times that the AT does actually have a great view. It's near Fontana Dam, near the park boundary, and it's an absolutely beautiful place!
