Don’t waste your money on a lawyer. What’s going to happen is you’re going to plea guilty and apologize and promise not to do it again, the judge may or may not take you over the coals for a bit depending on their mood, and then you will have to pay a small fine, like 100 dollars or something. Whole thing should take like half an hour.

I don’t care to debate this but courts have disagreed in the past. There’s plenty of case law on this.

If you’re in uniform on the clock, and on the premises, a court is basically always gonna find that the employee was acting within scope of employment.

It does. Shoplifting losses get passed on to regular consumers in the form of price increases. If it’s too prevalent stores just close which means people lose their jobs and the city loses sales tax revenue.

Stores are not insured against shoplifting. This is such a common misconception that people keep parroting.

The wages of the staff are irrelevant. Stores can be held liable if their employees detain or injure thieves.

There’s not but getting from Manhattan to the other boroughs is not really any easier. The path does a very good job of connecting us to NY and it’s only 2.75.

Air inside the tunnels isn’t that bad unless there is lots of traffic, they have very good ventilation systems. They can totally refresh the air inside the tunnel every 90 seconds, they were designed to keep tunnel goers safe from car exhaust before catalytic converters were invented. At the time the tunnel was built vehicle exhaust was substantially more dangerous.

If you’re not from the area I can see how someone would make the mistake, especially if the traffic signal is malfunctioning which we have seen happen often at certain crossings. There is a reason why heavy rail trains sound their horn at crossings.

To be fair those light rail trains are whisper quiet it’s hard to hear it sometimes if you’ve got the radio on and the windows up.

Set offs for affordable housing have failed miserably in nyc. It’s how you end up getting funds for public housing diverted for Hudson yards.
