Very wealthy? That neighborhood is, at best, upper middle class. Wealthy is Windor Farms, Very wealthy isn't in the the city. They live in the surrounding counties.

But they checked whole building, twice, with thermal gear. In the building with known issues.

We need solid leadership here.

Ha! I left our gas can at a friends an hour away. I picked a new one up to fill the generator. We will not lose power now!
Looks like the wind is settling, most of the gusts should be under 30, however looks like we will see them through tomorrow, just lower to 20. BRRRR

Ok but you do realize it is not the cold, but the extra strain on the grid? That is what failed. Just like this summer when it was crazy hot in pacific north west.

The cold doesn't kill the power, the over use of the heaters draws more than available. Our power grid is very fragile. We could strengthen it, but then it would be harder to charge people.
Professional_Book912 t1_j1a287n wrote
Probably. It is hard to tell, but generally wind is what gets us. The thing that can help us is that the leaves are gone, so it will not have as much drag. They are also providing maximums.
Not sure where you were looking, but you can get all the NWS Wakefield stuff here:

This storm is going to nail a good portion of the country. For Richmond, we will see cold Peak cold right now is 3-6am saturday, looking at 10 degrees with a wind chill of negative 3. The big issue will be how much water is left on the roads to make black ice saturday morning.
Also, i hope we get all our homeless in a good place.

Have you gone to the men's shelter at United Nations Church? That is free and city funded, although I cannot speak to favorites.
I know it's a long shot, they have been turning people away because of lack of space.
Try a few Churches as well. The one at stewart and franklin is welcoming. They all should be, but that is a different story.

If you talk about suicide and get into a hospital, you can abuse the system to get warm. People do it all the time. Not saying it's right, but its a loophole.

I am not sure where you got that info about frostbite, but it takes longer than 5 min.

I would suggest putting some time in here: https://www.endhomelessnessrva.org/ because that gives you a backbone to work from. I am sure they can use help with donation management!

I don't disagree, but the conversation is started. No this needs to be disproved, and show something else. Even if this isn't the root cause, it is the first step on the "5 Whys".

If only someone could look into some of the root causes of violence in Richmond and see if there are any common ties to start working from.

Budget on time? You mean the CAFR? That is a report they should be getting in on time anyway.
Really? Andreas Addison had an article not to long ago about how long the process takes. What sped up?
Ah yes, the aging infrastructure that has to be replaced. He didn't make that happen. It is a necessity. Otherwise we should thank him for updating the fire station too. (even more appropriate since SCHOOLS gets funding and is part of the problem)
Venture Richmond led the bike lane charge. It would have happened regardless of the city leadership.
New zoning - you are crediting the mayor with the work of one department.
I think what people want when they say nuts and bolts is someone to come fix the fucking city. There is no mandated time keeping programs, no mandated time off procedures. They are constantly fighting with our partners, like Schools and the Ambo Authority.
I would prefer a mayor that is a leader, and knows how to hire leaders. Right now we are a city of islands doing their own thing. We will never solve the other problems when we can't function as a city.

Can you expand on the state laws thing? So the state laws make Stoney incompetent? I thought it was the lack of leadership. Or putting his friend in charge of day to day business. Or not supporting the police during unrest. Or killing Navy Hill. Screwing up the Casino?
You are right. No one else could do that.

When there was construction people would follow the river, turning just west of willow oaks and driving through there to either Huguenot or back over to forest hill.
People already fly through cherokee, and it has that lil side road connecting it to hathaway.

They lied. They said they checked the building twice and found nothing. The camera shows them upstairs for under 3 minutes. There is no way, in the entire 11 minutes they were in the building, they checked it twice, with thermal gear.
They did not do their best, and the video shows them just milling about. They jimmied the lock because they were worried about the fire alarm, but then did not check the building. Not saying schools bares no blame.
