Another user cleared that up in this comment. Turns out that although fall creek falls is shorter, there is still a bit of nuance on what is considered the tallest.

The user in this comment had some interesting points about the Tennessee waterfall.

Generally it seems that there is a significant amount of nuance (and incorrect info) regarding waterfalls on the eastern half of the United States, haha.

I have done that a couple times. Never will again though. As I was standing as close to the waterfall as one can get, a series of rocks began falling and landing all around me. My friends and I were lucky to not get hit by any.

So yeah, the signs are there for a reason.
