It upscales to 4K and some games like the tourist will run 4k natively. But yeah, 1440p is the native max typically. It’s game dependent and also you can toggle performance versus quality mode in most games (forza 5 has it)
Unless your TV has HDMI 2.1 it won’t be too noticeable tbh. I borrowed a friends series X to compare when I was trying to decide if I wanted to upgrade. If I had a $2000 oled hdmi 2.1 tv? I get a series X because it’s gorgeous.
I have a Black Friday special 4K tv. 60hz. HDR. Looks brilliant with my series S. Looked basically the same on my couch with the series X lol.

You can play Xbox One and older games off the HDD, but newer next gen games (series S/X games, there will be an icon) games off the SSD. But the new games can be transferred to the HDD for storage, but must be transferred back to play.
90% of the games on gamepass I play off my HDD. I play my series S regularly and I’m probably not considered a “casual” user anymore. However, I feel no need to upgrade to the series X because I play on a 1080p gaming monitor lol.

I’d recommend an external usb HDD (doesn’t have to be an SSD) for older games that are in the backlog. Also if you want to move the new next gen ones over. Takes about 5 mins for forza to transfer in my experience.

Agree. The series S second hand at GameStop are so cheap. If OP has hard copies of the switch games they could get rid of the ones the kids won’t play and just keep the switch around as an extra.
The switch is really great for car trips because it has two controllers with the system “built in” and charges via USB C. It’s just great as an extra.

Reply to Switch from PS to Xbox? HELP by ecismyname
I’d grab a series S and gamepass and see how it goes. You might hate gamepass and the Xbox controller and if that’s the case after a couple months, you’re not really out a bunch of money because you can just sell the series S
Keep your ps4 because there are still games for it
Edit: to add, even picking up a second hand series S is great to see how you like it. So many of my friends just play Warzone / COD and they always have COD, and then a couple games on the ssd. It’s small storage wise but with a cheap 1tb HDD it’s great.

Yeah it sounds like the series S will be a nice little placeholder. They go on sale too, my friend picked up one for $200usd right before Christmas, and it came with a gift card lol. Target I think.
It’s the perfect gamepass machine and it will be noticeably faster than your PC and you still have your PS5 for exclusives and games you want native 4K
