This sounds exactly like what happened to my cousin a few years ago, turns out some frat guys drugged her at a Halloween party. Very fortunately, her friends did not think she was psycho and were able to get her out of there.

Keep in mind that many times these are tried on people who are otherwise terminally ill and going to pass anyway.
If someone came to you and said "this is experimental, we don't know what the side-effects are exactly, but if you are interested in trying it, it might be your last resort", you'd probably take whatever medication they offered you!

Ha, right! Fortunately many of them have only a few lines and my kids didn't complain when I used my "dwarf voice" for most of them. Thorin had his own voice, and Balin as well.

How is this a TIFU? OP teaches kids skills they almost certainly wouldn't have learned otherwise. Not OP's fault that one of the kids has used these skills to run away from home. For the blame there, you look first to the parents, strong chance they aren't any good.
