It's not the remaking of the thing, it's that they always find the laziest possible way to do it.

Let's take The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the longest running film in cinema history. Still playing since 1975.

In 2016, a remake was made with Laverne Cox as Frank n Furter.

The film, aside from like 3 references to the audience call outs and like 2 new songs, was essentially a copy/paste of the original script. While Cox's performance was decent enough, it did not capture what the original film did nor were they on par with the original Tim Curry performance.

It's difficult to make a movie so bad it wraps around to being good again, on purpose.

The remake was essentially an easy cash-grab by selecting a trans person to play the role of a trans person.

"Modern audience" remakes are basically the palette swap of modern cinema instead of actually writing an original script.
