That's like comparing chocolate cake to chocolate ice cream. Sure they both have the same ingredient but the execution is different. Personally I don't find comics or manga limiting. I find how it amazing how a manga artist can express something with so few option. I'm currently reading through Blame! the manga and The Martian by Andy Weir.
I would definitely recommend you try Blame if you wanna see how alluring and threatening a world can look in just black and white, but hey, different strokes for different folks
Edit: check out Junji Ito's works as well if you want see some of the best Lovecraftian work ever in a manga
