An actual person has the job of taking calls for this exact thing. Nicely explain what happened and that you want to pay the toll, but are on a tight budget with everything going on right now. They're human, they'll help you. *For reference, I know someone who did this job during college and she always helped everyone who was nice to her. Assholes, not so much. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Being broke and 25 is actually to your advantage in this situation. When you fill out the Fafsa, they'll go by your income & net worth, not your parents, so you'll qualify for more financial aid. Also, since you're 25, you can probably get some credit for life experience (I believe the Feinstein Campus in PVD has a program). You can also take the CLEP tests for a number of classes, which is faster & cheaper than taking an actual course. Talk to an advisor at URI, and they'll help you figure it out. If you have any difficulties in your background (substance abuse, homelessness, etc) there are scholarships specifically to help you get an education and build your life. You can definitely do this!

Seems to make more sense people would want to vote in FL if they could, where their vote could help sway the results one way or the other. RI not being anything close to a swing state doesn't seem reasonable that anyone would go to the extreme of committing fraud just to vote here. And if you went to all that trouble, would you blatantly pull up to the polls in your out of state vehicle marked with plates that identify your fraudulent presence? Doesn't seem likely.

Sister & neice both went this route and are now counselors. Sister has a private practice and makes bank! Neice is in the "supervised hours" stage of the licensing process (you have to work 2,000 hours under the supervision of a licensed therapist to get your license.) My sister did this by working as a school counselor and made $35k a year. Then she got her license and started her own practice. My neice is working in a hospital as a counselor for $55k. She loves it so much she's thinking she'll stay in this job even after she has her hours and is licensed (at which time her salary will jump up to $75k). Aaaaand, my son is currently at USM majoring in Behavioral Science. He's doing it all online now, which they started doing because of covid, and it works for him because he can have a full time job and do his classes online when he has the time. Your goals are 100% worthwhile and achievable!! Mental wellness is a HUGE growth industry in this country and I hope you decide to pursue it!!

It smells great!! Clean and subtle, not chemically overbearing like a lot of men's cologne (and it does come in a cheaper cologne version). I got it for my 22 year old son and he loves it! The company was founded in the town where I live and the Caswell family built my house!

I just did a little research and apparently, out of every 1,000 unpaid medical bills, a hospital will sue for an average of 1.73 of them. Fewer than 2 people per 1,000!! And they're not going to do it for a measly $2,500. You can confirm it's been written off, if you like. But just know that the hospital will verrrry likely never sue you and will not report to credit agencies. A collection agency cannot legally collect the debt if you challenge them, because they cannot prove it. If they should happen to report you, you can have it removed by challenging them with the credit agencies. Also, in case you didn't know - if you tell a collection agency to stop contacting you, they have to. As part of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, passed in 2021, you can send a letter to the collector telling them never to contact you again. Keep a copy of the letter. If they continue to contact you, you can sue them. You definitely have rights, so please use them!!

Yes, the collection agency owns the debt. They buy it for pennies on the dollar and the hospital writes it off. So, no money that you pay will go to the hospital (this is different if it's a law firm collecting FOR the hospital.) If it's a collection agency, the hospital has written it off. If this collection agency can't collect, they'll sell it to another agency for even less than they paid. The MO of these agencies is to bully, threaten, and intimidate you into paying. Because of HIPAA they can't prove you owe it, but most people don't know that. And to answer your question about the $2,500 bill.....yes, I would and yes, I did. I have insurance and it was one of those things that I didn't even know wasn't paid until I got the nasty letter. I tried to pay the hospital but they wouldn't take it because it had been written off and turned over to collections. Therefore, I did not pay collections and I told them exactly what I told you. I know several people who have also dealt with this and, of those who were reported, every single one got it removed. This is one small corner of our very messed up healthcare system. We need to advocate for ourselves.

This is correct. The collection agency can't provide itemized charges because they are not legally allowed to possess that information, due to hipaa. Soooo, you can challenge this debt with the credit agencies and the collection agency must remove it because they cannot prove you owe it. Write a letter to the big 3 credit agencies (I would send email + hard copy). You can find simple templates for this online. It's the rare loophole which actually works for the common man. Good luck!!

There are professional jobs here, but not a lot of corporate opportunities like in a big city. Larger financial services companies and law firms have satellite offices in Newport, to serve the local clientele. No one is based here. Hospitality management, on the other hand, offers opportunities with larger companies such as Newport Restaurant Group (Corp offices are in Warwick) or with Pebblebrook, which just bought Gurney's Hotel for $174 million, and they have 50 other properties in their portfolio. With your background, you could consider a corporate position in marketing or department director position with a company like that, so you're not front-of-house and dealing directly with the demanding masses. And, as others have said, defense contractors such as Raytheon and McLaughlin Research, are another option. You're right in your assessment too, Newport is an awesome place to live. Good luck!!

I know they're doing maintenance and roofing work, but it's all exterior. The house and grounds are still open for tours. Some of the restoration work is as fascinating as the house itself, in terms of the lengths they have to go to to ensure historical accuracy. Plus, Doris Duke's clothing is on display and you can see how she really lived in the house. It's definitely one of my favorites!

Breakers for sure, as most have said. It's the most over-the-top. Rosecliff is my favorite, and the one I would live in, given the choice. If you can get in to Rough Point, Doris Duke's mansion, it's a must-see! If not, go with Marble House, if for no other reason than it was built for Alva Vanderbilt as her 35th birthday present. It's good to set a high standard ๐Ÿ˜‚

I agree with South Kingstown and Tiverton (opposite directions from Newport) but both offer the opportunity for a lot of space. I live in Newport and South County is the only area in RI that tempts me to move. Wakefield is super cute, with all the shopping you need, there are a lot of good restaurants in the area, galleries in Narragansett, awesome beaches, and 30 minutes to Newport. Good luck!!
