It's a game with dice, and generally there's LOTS of stuff that "breaks immersion." Do you... do you not look at your character sheet?
I honestly don't get your point.
[edit: I'm wondering if you think D&D should be a non-stop hours-long improv session? Or maybe some rank amateur drama performance? That's not D&D at most tables, but feel free to enjoy yourself however you want. It's a game played with paper, dice, and books, not costumes, accents, and props.]

- The moon. It has significant gravity and has historically attracted much of the debris headed our way, and thus has more craters to be visible.

Yeah, of course! The nature of orbital mechanics (and I don't understand it well at all) and the frequency at which the Moon orbits the Earth means that it's likely that anything zooming in is probably going to encounter the Moon's gravity first, but it's by no means guaranteed.
