RPS has a similar meeting. It is focused on outreach. How can RPS family liaisons work with faith leaders to get in to the community to discuss importance of attendance, to offer resources available in RPS, to offer numbers to call if families need help with transportation etc.

I don’t think ANY public school is doing wonderfully right now. It’s a question of who is doing best in your area

Totally agree with you on expelling kids. I was furious to learn about the school boards complete lack of respect with regards to the suggestions and referrals from their school based administrators. These principles are telling the school board. Hey, this kid is not safe to have in my building and then something like 70% of the time the school board says to them to hell with all the other kids in the building you were going to take this kid back.

I just don’t think “fuck it, there are too many work arounds - kids will get guns in to schools anyways” is the right stance to take

They have a strict door policy at the high schools where you must go through the doors with a metal detector, it does cause some back up in the mornings, but everybody goes through the metal detectors. They tightened this up recently and have adults monitoring the other doors.

Middle school age children are bringing guns to school. Obviously the larger, causative factors need to be addressed. In the short term, this will keep kids safe(r) on a day to day basis.
