A true audiophile knows source is king, and until you can get your hands on some import SACD's of quality timber, or if you were lucky enough to see it fall, live, back in 74', you're just listening to a parody of the original record.

For an amp, I personally go out of my way to find an antiquated design that has a high potential to start a fire, introduces all kinds of artifacts and tonal/harmonic shifts to music, and has somewhere between 1000-10,000x more distortion than a THX 789.

And it's the most fun I've had with hifi gear.

This is all highly subjective. For me, there's more than enough bass, and too much if I use EQ. The soundstage is as good as any headphone under 300$ that I've ever heard, and its detail is higher than any other 300$ headphone I've heard, by far.

Unless you're looking at them under bright light, they 1000% look black.

Duct tape for if it moves and shouldn't, WD-40 for if it doesn't move and should, and rubbing alcohol to clean up grease and duct tape residue.

I'm using my Focal Alpha 65 Evo studio monitors. They cost about as much as a pair of their headphones, and have totally got me into the brand, aside from some customer service snafus.
