OP is also stating that gesture is difficult due to how wide the screen is. You can swiped from the right side of the screen on an Android phone to go back and only move your thumb .25" to make it happen. The iphone has to go from the left and move roughly 1/3 of the way across the screen to complete the process.

You're missing the point. Google isn't the one that is having the optimization problem. The OEMs making the phones are. I agree with your point that apple and iOS is a better optimized system. Just know that it is more the OEMs fault than Google's for the lack of optimization.
