If it were easy to get out of jury duty no one would ever serve, unless they wanted to serve. And someone trying to serve jury duty more than needed would not be a fair representation of the average citizen and may have some weird biases.

I you can probably get out of jury duty 9/10 times for criminal cases if you have had bad experience with cops. Civil is probably a bit more complicated. Grand jury seems impossible.

I was under the impression the consultant should be the one providing the information to the contractor and the state(owner) pretty much just says we want X done. At this point in my understanding all the contractors make impossibly low bids to get the job and then once the have the job delay slow and stall work to milk the project because the state compared to them generally have unlimited funds and they know the state will not allow a public works project to just stall out once ground has been broken.

I don't know why you have faith that the new law won't be challenged successfully, the current supreme court has shown that it'll come to a decision and then back track it's way to find justification for it. If it gets challenged with the new work around law they'll just change the rules.

Let me explain the inexplicable, the bystander didn’t want to put himself in harms way for someone they didn’t know which is reasonable.

While I’d like to believe I’d be the guy to go in and be a hero in real life from behind my keyboard, I know in real life my actions might be more selfish.

Unfortunately I do not have a source outside of resident interviews and intake records that I had to review as part of my past work. I was unable to find place of origin tracking from DHS and a google search only shows that nyp article about one shot deals that blew up and about Puerto Rico sending their homeless here.

More like it doesn't fit the political wedge republicans are trying to create between black and Asian communities who primarily vote democrat so those chuds won't be here to promote it.

The delivery guy who was shot over duck sauce was big news until it was revealed to be a white guy then no one gave a fuck. Same thing with the grandma who was set on fire until it turned out to be some white kids from bensonhurst once again people stopped giving a fuck.

I get that but we're specifically talking about the homeless in the context of violent or aggressive mentally unstable homeless people. If you are couch surfing there are people taking care of you to some degree and you're less likely to be one of those guys on the subway or street people complain about.

I'm not saying that I'm saying a small number of mentally unwell people cause most of the visible problems that affect quality of life. There were 60000 homeless in NYC of that about 2k were street homeless and not housed in the shelter system. Even if we assume all 2k of the street homeless are dangerous insane and violent getting even 350 of the worst offenders off the street would drastically improve the quality of life for most new yorkers.

A lot of comments in these threads say we don't have enough beds but in my head I'm thinking for the most part a small population of insane people create the majority of the problem. I don't have the numbers but I'm assuming it's something like maybe 350 of these mentally unstable individuals can cause 100% of the visible interactions and it's often the same few individuals so in reality a small number of beds would have a large affect on the actual problem.

Again this is just a thoughy and I don't have the hard numbers to back this up so anyone who is more knowledgeable please chime in.

The previous thread was all about crime even though the article only mentioned it the opener and in a later paragraph mentioned someone dying in a street fight while not saying if it was even related to his job or not. This will likely devolve into a crime thread regardless of the intent of the article or the poster because this sub is astroturfed to hell.

Doubt, the issue isn’t that private sector is somehow more efficient than the same talent pool in public.

Once private sector takes control of a public sector project they often times do a worse job because there is essentially a blank check to get the job completed, no real oversight and they take longer to complete the task because the faster they work the quicker they’ll be out of a job.

They’ll also understaff the project and with that small staff have them split time between their own projects to maximize profits.
