My husband and I just stayed in Tappan Lake. It’s a little over an hour from Pittsburgh and the cabins are new and right across from the lake. We got the mini lodge because they were running a bogo special that’s going on until the end of February. There isn’t a lot to do there but they have a store with food and drinks and the marina is a mile away with a restaurant and bar.

We also love Deep Creek, Hocking Hills (a little over 3 hours), Cook Forest & Treasure Lake.

My husband and I have lived near the Monastery in the slopes since 2006 and before that we lived on 18th near Crossman. We love it. It’s quiet and safe and an easy bus ride into Oakland and downtown. It’s interesting that people wouldn’t think of the slopes as safe but I can say as a woman I walk everywhere and haven’t had anything crazy happen.

Also many of the homes in the slopes have amazing views of the city as well. Once you have a view you won’t want to live anywhere else in the city.

I’ve been here since 2000 so I remember how exciting it was when it opened. I also worked in the Southside at the time so would go shopping there on my lunch break.

It was tough seeing all the shops leave but I really like the direction they are going with now.

The more local shops, restaurants and bars they can open the better.
