Yes. Thank you. I’m glad there are a few here who understand.

I’ll put it into perspective for other people…I make as much as an X-ray technician. In most other states I’d be living pretty comfortably. Here… I’m living low class. I can save about $200-$400 a month, unless we have an emergency, like my dog contracting lime or car repairs…Then there goes a bunch of it. To move out we need to pay an awful lot. First, last, and security of the new place on top of a moving rental, enough to pay a few months of rent while we find jobs, enough for a few months worth of food for 2 grown adults, two cats, a dog. I have multiple health issues, including type 1 diabetes. I need a few months worth of meds and an emergency supply.

I can not stand when people aren’t willing to see things from the perspectives of those who are struggling, forgotten, and downtrodden. My mother acts like this, she’s getting everything payed for by my stepdad who makes a good amount…and she’s in Lala land about the world. I’m pretty fucked up because of her… And this thread proves to me exactly what Ive noticed about certain Vermonters offline.

Other red places also buy the homeless bus tickets to California, and the only reason they won’t ship them off here is exactly what you said. Clearly from this thread we can’t even agree on stuff because there are a few harsh realities Vermonters are unwilling to face and no one knows what the solution is. Someone here asked me why I just don’t move out if I don’t like it, to a more “walkable” place. It isn’t that simple, I didn’t feel like I need to justify myself to him but you know exactly what the problem is so I’ll tell you…I was homeless for 6 months during Covid. With a job/ decent income because of the crisis, and we weren’t the only displaced family…what I didn’t tell that guy who has since deleted his responses to me.. is that my husband and I ARE working on moving out. We just have to save up where money (a difficult thing to do in Vermont) And you bet I have some pretty harsh criticisms for how a lot of people are in Lala land here. I love this place, a lot…I just can’t keep living here and have a passable quality life anymore.

This was a huge problem when I lived in Westminster west. The yearly winter power outages made it so we couldn’t drink, couldn’t shower, couldn’t flush, and refilling our huge jugs was too much of a PITA. That’s why I moved closer to town! And Putney and Bratts town water isn’t actually bad at all in my opinion. Florida town water though, where my mom lives….ughhhh taste like you’re drinking canned water. You know that bad can taste? It has that.

Is having local businesses right by where people live not a good enough proposition. Who ever said i meant Vermont as a whole?! There are a lot of things I’d like to see change that i know won’t be feasible. You still aren’t trying to teach me. You’ve already written me off as an idiot so why should I even try? I was only talking about the ski town, what they could build…no one said anything about ripping down Vermont. Seriously read my comment again. The post is about developing the ski town, OP asked what we’d like to see IN THE FUTURE SKI TOWNS. I WAS ONLY TALKING ABOUT THE SKI TOWN.

In animation we call what I was doing spitballing. People very rarely make entire animated films from one spitball conversation.

The way this guy talks to people in his other comments I read… he seems to like to think everyone else is an idiot and that he knows best because he is a professional. I don’t think anyone can convince him to think imaginatively when it comes to others, or jump into someone else’s shoes to consider things from others’ perspective. What kind of planning can you even do around here?!? He won’t even tell us!!!

Instead of teaching people about what he knows in a kind way, he just sounds angry. I hope he’s ok…but I think it’s pointless for anyone to keep talking to him.

Absolutely, we need walkable towns!!! and I HATE the zoning problem.

Ive been watching a lot of shows that take place in Asia lately (Old Enough on Netflix is adorable, i highly recommend it) and one thing I notice is how they incorporate shops into neighborhoods. You’d think it would look trashy because we are so used to strip malls and corporate areas here but I’m talking mom and pop shops. Specialty stuff, independent shops…I’d love for us to try something like that. I think there are a lot of European towns set up like this too.

It would also be incentive to push out corporate chains. Though, I was just at Newbury street in Boston today and noticed that even with certain chains, you can still have some of them around under apartments in a way that looks pleasant and inviting.

I have tried both, I never made an apples to apples comparison. Im actually getting really sick of people on Reddit assuming shit about each other so quickly and then being condescending because of an assumption. Everyone has their own lives and opinions, but that’s a different discussion and I wanted to hear why you thought the way you did.

In fact, it was an experience with an edible I made with far too much weed that put me into Diabetic Ketoacidosis and a coma. Not the weed itself, but I was so out of it and not taking care of myself, and I downed a 2 liter of regular soda I thought was diet.

I don’t really have an angle other than I come from a father who was alchoholic and I myself am recovering. I also work for people with addictions, not all of them but some, and my organization has had several overdoses, luckily it’s been several years. I’ve seen the heroine problem here first hand in both my work and when I was displaced from the housing problem and was living in a motel during Covid. 13 OD deaths in the 6 months we lived there.

There’s no easy solution here honestly. But one thing is for sure, resources need funding badly and there needs to be better mental health care. luckily my wages are paid by Medicaid so I can keep helping. There’s also a psychologist and psychiatrist shortage that I don’t see being talked about as often as housing, obviously housing is more immediately important…but in the long term it’s having a devastating effect that I also see first hand in my work.

Canada is in the process of legalizing many drugs, and in BC they have clinics that give out drugs in a safe space….we will be able to see how that turns out for them, and we can back up our opinions with more data after we see what the long term results will be up there.

Explain yourself. How is it ignorant? You should look into how successful prohibition has been historically.

Weed is literally a psychedelic in high doses.

https://www.psypost.org/2021/08/study-suggests-cannabis-can-induce-a-psychedelic-oceanic-experience-61656

Not to mention, legalizing substances will allow them to be regulated and studied for therapeutic effects. Right now, a large amount of overdoses in VT are attributed to fentanyl laced drugs.

https://www.vermontpublic.org/vpr-news/2022-04-12/vermont-health-officials-confront-record-number-of-opioid-overdose-deaths

criminal charges aren’t working so great, are they? Prison in the US isn’t meant to rehabilitate . Once you’re in the system you’re finished. You can’t really get work, people will judge you…all because you are addicted to a taboo substance because you were never given help… even though people are walking around with severe caffeine and social media addictions and no one says a word to them about it. People who want or depend on drugs are going to get them no matter what. Might as well make sure it’s clean and provide people with addiction resources and mental health help funded through taxing the drugs. Seems pretty simple to me.

Had to call state police when 91 was shut down Feb 24 because we were stuck on the side of the road covered in black ice and insurance said “your car is not disabled so we won’t pay for a tow even though you have full coverage so kindly call your local police and fuck right off” and I was 20 min from home, running out of insulin in my pump. The state police basically said “yeah we’re all out on the road so call us when you’re dying from your diabetic emergency thank you goodbye”.

Luckily I found the spare insulin that I keep in my car for emergencies that is probably not as effective from being frozen. But I would have been royally screwed.

Oh, that's great. I have anxiety and I gotta go there to get my medication so that will be fun for my anxious brain. This is really good to know for my job though, so I don't take my clients there. Not sure why we haven't gotten a warning from work. Many of our clients go there all the time. This feels like something out staff should know about. Even though most are fake and it seems to have been a prank, my work should be taking this seriously. Thank you for posting about it.

Oh those guys are so cool!! I used to have a couple of bantam silkies and I loved them, but their eggs are tiny. They loved to sit on our laps though. They were so friendly. Thank you for this. I wonder if I can even find someone who breeds these around here. I guess that's always the option of ordering fertile eggs online.
