Was craving one earlier today as well. Went over to Friscos/Reckless Shepard to try theirs. Best I’ve found in HoCo.

To be completely honest, I’d focus on elementary and middle school more than high school. Since they are smaller, the local elementary school is a better representation of your community (for the most part).

Didn’t a kid just get stabbed at Hammond? I don’t mean to suggest that this occurrence is emblematic of anything - I think Hammond is a fine school - but to suggest that Wilde Lake is worse is just incorrect. Wilde Lake is a great school surrounded by a great community in a thriving part of Columbia. You’ll never meet a person or family that attended Wilde Lake speak negatively of their experience. It always seems to be others that have no connection to Wilde Lake that trash it. That should tell you something.

“Relative to single family zoning, low income housing is more environmentally friendly.”
I understand this statement in the flow of this conversation, but I do want to impress on folks that “density” does not equal “low income.” Maple Lawn is probably one of the densest areas in the county, also one of the most expensive.

A lot of it depends on commuting patterns. I work in DC, so Columbia is about as far north as I am comfortable living. Maybe that changes a bit with the new hybrid work model that most places have now.
We also looked at Odenton and Silver Spring area. Ultimately, I think Columbia is an awesome place to live, especially if you’re in the more walkable areas where your aren’t completely car dependent.

Wilde Lake and Hickory Ridge are very nice areas with different types of housing at a wide range of price levels.
If you’re looking for more walkable communities or if being close to cultural amenities and other activities is important to you, check out those villages.

I’m not sure of all the history, but they moved around the corner (closer to Wegmans) recently and rebranded to Reckless Shepard Brewpub and Friscos Restaurant.
