I would go in and talk to the people who do car registrations. If the town has a rec department they for sure need help.

Baseball/softball is always looking for help and it's not just to coach, it's getting fields ready etc.

Go to the local food bank when it's open not to get food, but to check about volunteering.

This is the way.

Maine doesn't have huge regional volunteer organizations, Good Shepherd Food bank is one that I can think of off the top of my head, although thinking about it I'm not sure how many volunteers they have, because they work closely with volunteer food banks in towns. There is also the Dempsy center but I think that mostly located in the L/A area.

To OP: what type of volunteering would you like to do? That will help immensely to give you some direction. Smaller central Maine towns would have most volunteer opportunities centered around the town, where bigger towns/cities would have more diverse opportunities.

I gotta tell you for some reason I am irrationally angry about the coverage about this cold snap. Like it's 36 hours of below zero, this is no big deal. Slow news week or something.

Wear a coat don't stay outside. Are people that stupid we need to talk about frost bite for 5 damn days. Ugh I gotta chill about this.

I see you are getting downvoted. I work at a mountain. I have done both and I am decent enough to get down blacks and some double blacks on both. Here is my recommendation when people ask me. If you have time to dedicate to learning snowboarding is a blast, super fun and once to get the hang of it easier to do tricks, and extend your ability. If you going once a year, and just want to enjoy your day going up and down the bunny slope, skiing is where you should be.

Junction Bowl if that is your thing it's tucked behind the hannaford in Gorham.

If you like hockey Portland has an ECHL team that is decent hockey. They play Trois rivieres and Newfoundland frequently so you can enjoy the national Anthem if that is your thing.

Generally, your OBGYN will help to guide you, also they strongly suggest you tour the facilities while pregnant so you can get a sense of ehat to expect.

All former maternity wards are birthing centers. Long gone are the days when you were in a plain white room with harsh lighting. I gave birth to my son 24 years ago at the Mercy Birthing center in portland.

12 year ago I gave birth to my daughter at the MMC birthing center, in my daughters case they had a birthing tub and shower en suite which I didn't use because luckily my labors are short.

Google reviews are kind of crap. I suggest going and visiting, and checking with your OBGYN.

I've driven to Jackman 4 times this year (during the day) and never saw a moose, but not for lack of trying.

Funnily the only moose I have seen all year is in New Hampshire on Route 16 north of Mount Washington.

I also am wondering when this was.. I graduated late 90s. I started teaching early 2000's never has it been in my career that the trades were downplayed. Granted my a chick so it was not really normal for girls to go to trade school but it was and option.

The only ridiculous thing that was told to me was not to worry about how to pay for school. And just take out a crap ton of loans, which 20 years later I am still paying back.
