Now I feel so bad for u I'm looking up stealth gaming systems lol. I dont know if they exist but I was thinking a console that has had its outer frame removed and 3d printwd a random older systems case for it... so in other words will the know a raspreberri pi from a gameboy if the outside is using a ganeboy cover and maybe a gameboy startup screen? U could even hide the OS to a degree or at least mask it. Otherwise ur literally limited to pre nintendo ds days. Which for me is not bad as I actually prefer the games from the 80s and 90s anyway.... but I don't know what ur taste is either.

I mean as a cyber security engineer I find it mad that they don't just implement some security changes to prevent people connecting to the WiFi and have a separate guest access for non Corp users... but hey I get it. They're assholes.

Would u be allowed a laptop with the network card removed? That way you could have an entire gaming system up to date but completely offline (just use external devices to transfer tg He game or data across) due to hardware making it impossible to go online without additional hardware being used. I say this is the best option as it gives u so much more than just gaming on the device. I worked in conditions similar and this was allowed (after much arguing from me). I would spend most evenings as work gaming or watching films in the gaps.

If not then the best option in my opinion would be a game system built (maybe raspberry pi) as an emulation machine allowing u to play up to ps2 games quite well. Again can be built without WiFi and just allow an sd card full of gamed.

Or if u want to go with an already known pre made system then the psp (non WiFi option) or an old gameboy advanced or something will be just fine.

Lol I remember this war since Nintendo and Sega days (started gaming on the commodore 64 and amiga 600). It just comes with the products. I was always a fan of tech. So always wanted all consoles but if I had to pick of what I preferred over xbox and Sony overall... I'd say I slightly prefer Sony due to the controllers. I've loved the evolution of controllers since the 80s and just feel the Sony ones lately have felt better for me personally than xbox controllers. Although it's so close that it's almost negligible honestly. I think both are great and worth buying either depending on ur preference of exclusive games or controllers.

Bought it to play with my little brother when I first got the ps5 as he was only 11 at the time. Looks great. Didn't play for longer than an hour though as its just not my type of game. It may be an age thing but I don't seem to enjoy platform's anymore (used to love games like rainbow island, zool, and the mario/sonic series). Specially 3d platformers. I hear its very good if ur in to 3d platform games though. For me I reckon I will get back in to platform games when the vr takes off a bit better.

I've almost always slightly preferred Sony console soles... however being completely honest... I dont think either new next gen console is worth buying yet. Not enough decent games oit yet to justify the crazy price tags. Another year and I reckon that will change though. If u are happy playing ps4 games for now, then the ps5 is a fantastic upgrade for that as it reduces loading times to almost nothing and is super quick! My ps5 is the best ps4 I have ever used in my home lol.

The new games don't really feel complete yet. A couple of examples... I did like elden ring... but after completing once, there's no incentive (like most games now) for replay. Spuder man miles... was fun... but short too.. and apart fro story mode it gets boring very quickly...

Just my opinion and advice... but I'm (37M) older now so that may skew my thinking.

kinda dude. ive been saying for a while now that i also regretted buying next gen and that its not really ready yet. i bought a ps5 when they were newish. but since buying one i have found myself getting fed up and bored wit the lack of games and lack of newer game replay value or even lack of fun content in general. it could be my age..... im 37M but finding games just quite boring now. older games are still fun though (and there are exceptions... like i did enjoy elden ring - but again only single play through then its boring again) so im not sure. its not like i find them too difficult or anything (still a gamer at core), but just that the content feels emptier now. full of graphics and great sounds and physics but no soul. also only seems to be the same games getting knocked out every 6 months.

but getting more specific.... i dont feel theres enough games out for ps5 to actually warrant the price tag, yet. otherwise its a fantastic bit of hardware, which i use mostly as a super ps4. the majority will end up playing ps4 games on it mostly (but only due to lack of choice of actual good ps5 games) and for that its actually brilliant!

probably not a popular opinion but an honest one from an older fart

summary:

Ps5 is not worth it yet unless you want to use it as a super fast ps4 or have a very few selection of games for a hefty price tag.
