I agree. They enforce what we (the royal we, citizens via popularly elected representatives and an independent judiciary) tell them to enforce. Would you rather they each enforce their own personal interpretation of right and wrong?

Smart criminals (to the extent that those exist) will sometimes break into cars, take a look at the registration to see where the owner lives, and grab a garage door opener (if they have one).

That's why, if you have a garage, it's always a good idea to lock the door leading to the house.

I doubt that happened to you, though. More of a suburbs thing.
