This movie is a perfect time capsule of 70’s car culture and a masterpiece of existentialism. Is it for everybody? Well, I once gave the remastered DVD as a gift to a friend and after they watched it he was mad at me for “pulling a joke” and “tricking them into watching it” and his wife banned me from their house permanently. If that isn’t the best recommendation for “Two Lane Blacktop” EVER, then I don’t know what is. This movie should be required viewing at every film school, on a double bill with “Breathless” (1960).

Most old 35mm prints were archived and held in storage at places like Gilboys, in Pico Rivera, which eventually went tits up and became Breakwater Transport and then... it's been awhile and I really don't know who does it anymore. But if you go to any repertory theater that still screens 35mm they'll know and can tell you. It's where all those places actually rent the 35mm prints they screen from. I think Theater Transit Company is still around. You could try them. Good luck.

The directors cut of “Resurrection” in the Quadrilogy boxset ends with a shot of Ripley & Call on a devastated earth. I haven’t seen it in years but I think it’s implied that the aliens had already gotten to earth. I forget.

The studio had that ending cut because they intended to beat the dead horse in space as long as they could. Which is weird because the famous teaser trailer for Alien 3, released a year earlier, had the tag line, “On earth everyone can hear you scream.” So clearly, the plan was to move the series in that direction.
