You need to have a blood pressure within a certain range for your organs to function properly. If there is no blood available for a transfusion, you should at least add some water to the system.

I guess cat-"communities" work differently, your cat probably just wanted to see whether his humans would supply him with food, if not, he would go catch something on his own. At least that's what I think a cat would be thinking.

This reminds me of a few years ago, when my dog was a puppy and my parents were out of the house for a day. Me and my brother were playing videogames, not realizing that the water-bowl was empty. My smart little puppy, not able to communicate with us in a better way, repeatedly hit the small metal bowl withing the larger, heavy porcellain holder with his paw, until it flipped out on one side just enough so he could pick it up with his mouth and present the empty bowl to us in our room. The bowl was never empty from that day on ❤️
