Does your work allow you to rent out a house they’re providing to you? That’s kind of a big part of the plan, considering they’re letting you live there contingent to you working for them.

I think everyone learns the same way that you did, unfortunately. I know my first HR portal only gave you three options to pick from and had no instructions explaining the difference.

If you have the option for “Married, but withhold at a higher Single rate”, that is what you want to go with unless your wife is Stay at Home. Withholding as Married is not accurate if your spouse has a job too.

You don’t have your withholding set to “Married”, do you?

Depending on the state you live in, no. Spousal approval may apply.

That’s probably when their standard check in times start, I bet it’s not an arbitrary time they pulled out of thin air. Unfortunately refund policies are pretty standard, and everybody thinks that their reason for cancellation shouldn’t apply.

I’m going with No on this one. They’re doing you a solid by refunding the one day.

Is your girlfriend controlled by her father? Since you don’t mention her disagreeing with his “rule”, then she either values his opinion more than your relationship, or she’s afraid of not getting some kind of inheritance. You might want to rethink your plans.
