I managed to buy a house in the area, partly because I figured my new lease was going to be more than a mortgage after all the inflation. It was something I had been working towards for years though. It’s got a spare bedroom with a bathroom attached, makes me wonder if I should rent it out. I feel ethically dubious about being a landlord even if it’s like roommates.

That's about what I'm paying for a 1 bed in canton at "The Porter" mind you I have just about the worst apartment in the building what with O'donnell street and a bus stop outside my window. I assume that's about right though, rent is brutal. Mind I pay 100$ for parking so a bit better there and they gave me the first year of parking free. You might be able to find something a bit cheaper but you probably have to be willing to move each year. My apartment will be available in march if you don't mind the bus stop they might not be asking much more than 1700$ to get someone in it for the first year. (trash is 30$ a month no you can't opt out of it)

I think at the point where you want a more nuanced review of a book you'll have to do some reading and adding more stars won't make it any more clear. People usually write why they gave a particular rating anyway. Having more stars doesn't make them have to write any less. 37.5 Stars "Ah he finds Hemingway's lack of first hand experience in war blatant compared to Orwell's and thus not as good at writing a story about it, I see clearly now with the right amount of stars."

In some cases "nicer" areas have more reported crime because the people who live there are more likely to report minor crimes to the police. I was born in P.G. county and even though I'm white we still almost never talk to the police unless we have to, and all I hear about PG from Calvert folk is "crime". I've lived in Edgewater MD too, and it has high crime rates but when you look into it it's all fraud and domestic abuse, bad but not the kind of crime people clutch their pearls over. Almost everyone I tell I live in Baltimore to, that cares to point out crime has also told me of instances they have knowingly broken the law. People universally see it as ok to break laws they don't like but fear monger that other people engage in the same behavior. We do have more of the kind of scary crime people worry about but it's just an odds. Urban areas have more crime, but unless it's a particularly poor area, they have more college graduates, they have more people earning 6 figures, they have more of everything.

Just remember our unofficial slogan I'm making up.

"Baltimore, actually I like it"

I would go to a place that does only cameras and look at their used stock, people who spend 800$ on a new lenses are the kind of people who will also take good care of it and you can get great deals on used equipment from a place that knows about them. Instead of of a pawn shop that might know noting about it and bought it from a person who may have never payed for it to begin with. Mind if you just want them because you think they are cool and don't intend to use them, I'm sorry I can't help. Please downvote me so I may learn from my mistakes.

Yeah it sound kind of NIMBY to me and you want to talk to the manager, I like people keeping the housing prices reasonable. I assume it's not just like an old busy body as they would be more than happy to talk to the police. Asking for an alternative shows some amount of care but like also mind your business unless they are trying to sell you drugs.
