You should be fine living just about anywhere in the state, especially in a town or city of any size. (if you are looking at smaller rural town, it may be more of an issue, but even those are generally considerably more liberal than the rest of the country as whole)

I would be mostly concerned with jobs and the general amenities of the area where you want to live. And of course the cost of living is high, so budget is always a big concern here.

Get a temperature sensor and do quick temperature audit of the house when it is cold outside. You can get a cheap temperature laser online and it will tell you where the heat is leaking out the most. Then you can get some things to mitigate the leak. Like draft stoppers for doors or even the plastic wrap for windows if its really bad.

Try insulating that door better or sitting somewhere else. You can't heat your house to 73 degrees and not pay a ton of money.

Do you have a smart thermostat? Is it on a schedule and do you change the temperature when you are not home?

Even if they would give you a check back, by the time you get it sorted out the next bill will have already issued and you wont have a credit anymore.

I would say your best bet might a less traditional hotel and more like a bed and breakfast. They tend to have different layouts etc.

I agree (and as I said above) this is about pushing problems elsewhere. This is the T saying "not my problem to solve" (And I don't think it is their problem to solve).

It's not about sticking it to homeless people. I think you are seeing malice where apathy/self interest exists.

People designing things are not thinking, "how can I fuck with homeless people today", they are thinking, homeless people keep sleeping here and that causes problems for me, how can I make my own life easier. Also I am a person in charge of benches at a T station so its not like I have power to help homeless people.

Edit: I would love to know why the downvotes. I am not arguing for shitty benches here.
