My wife and I just did a short hike at Norman Bird Sanctuary this past Sunday and it was great. You park at the welcome center and then it's more like a walk to reach the different trails available. There are some portions that feel like a hike (uphill, over rocks), but it's really casual.

They will start charging $7 per adult on April 1 but before that date it is free to walk the trails. That's only a few days notice but if you have Thursday or Friday off then it's free on those days.

How the replies in this thread will go:

  • The problem is that there's not enough housing, we need to change rules to allow more housing to be built.
  • The new housing won't be affordable housing, it will be luxury housing. This won't fix the issue since people will still be paying a high percentage of their income on rent.
  • The new luxury housing will allow people to move out of their current less luxurious housing, opening it up for other people to rent it at a lower rate.
  • Landlords will jack up the prices of those apartments too since the demand will allow it. In turn, there's still no affordable housing.

Rinse and repeat.

I signed up for it in October for electric and gas. So far so good. We've been on or under budget most months until the January bill - electric was only a few dollars over, gas was way over but usage was the same as last year, just higher rates.

Like someone else said, they may adjust our monthly billing up around the six month mark but our plan currently is $65 a month for electric and $130 a month for gas. 1100 sf two-floor house, 2 residents, been here since 2020. Previously we would have gas bills in the $250-$300 range during winter so seeing our higher amount on the January bill wasn't totally unexpected (even with higher rates).

Overall for us it's easier to plan/budget knowing how much it will be month to month rather than having a variety of costs through the year. To each their own.

I know you were not asking me, but honestly I used to see it as being aware of the world outside of my own personal experiences. Edit - I found it quite helpful for me to put further context on why something is the way it is, or someone feels the way they feel (even if I disagree with it).

Now it's just used as a negative term and has no real meaning when used, which is unfortunate.

Maybe I'm an outlier but I just brought my Mazda to Tasca in Cranston. It was for 75K mile service - oil change, replace air filter and spark plugs, rotate tires. I was able to get an appointment about a week out and the wait while I was there was about 90 minutes.

But, if you need specialty work? Maybe that's what takes way longer.

Okay, so I'm not crazy. I've not seen any wildly different billing this year so I feel like an outlier. We are on a balanced billing plan but that still allows me to track actual usage compared to what we're paying per month.

We have an 1100 sf two-floor home, unfinished basement, fairly poor insulation. Our electric has been around $65 a month and our gas (heat and hot water) has been around $130-$160 a month since November. We keep the thermostat between 65-68. Only do cold water clothes washing. No dishwasher.

Not scared, it's a waste of time and money. The audits done after the 2020 election resulted in now no earth shattering revelations and no changes in the outcome.

Here's one example of everyone's wasted money and time - https://www.texastribune.org/2021/12/31/secretary-state-texas-election-audit/

Edit - here's another waste of time and money - https://www.reuters.com/world/us/arizona-republicans-release-findings-widely-panned-election-audit-2021-09-24/

I don't get the mentality of setting a date. There were a few days where the lows were in the 40s. Guess what? We put the heat on because it's cold. It's not like it then stays on forever. Heat hasn't kicked back on in a few days because it's been so nice.
