This was pretty similar to what happened to my great great grandfather. He was dumped on the dock at Ellis Island at 11 or 12- his family all got back on the ship to the Netherlands and left him there with absolutely nothing. He spoke only Dutch. He never was quite right in the head according to my grandpa- it’s amazing he made it from those circumstances.

Credit card companies charge transaction fees. The gas station gives a discount for cash payers because they don’t have to cover a transaction fee when people pay in cash.
