Compared to the Boston area (not in the city of Boston) i can get way more for my money renting. It's also what you make of it. I don't need the newest nicest place, just clean and safe. It could be as expensive as you want it to be.

I feel like groceries can be expensive but that's probably more to do with the economy/supply chain issues than anything else.

This is my first time with gas heat so the bill feels like a lot there, but if you do budget billing, it would probably be less shocking month to month.

I left mine at 65, but do not turn off the heat, especially during the winter. You don't want to not be home and have something bad happen because the heat was off.

Also ideally don't post when you'll be out of town on the internet. Just say "I'm traveling for a week in the winter" keep it vague.

I also went and got smart outlet plugs so I could operate some of the lights while I was away from home.

Hiking, museums, public events sponsored by museums, public markets, antiquing, the Pittsburgh parks were doing yoga in the park this summer.

And if you're sans alcohol, a local coffee shop is my go to for getting a drink somewhere.

Definitely need to check out meetup myself but depending on your interests, I'm sure there's something there.
