You know this show will probably outlast Zaslav's term at WBD, lol.

We'll see. This is not even unique to this show. Almost no huge budget streaming genre show has gone past 4 seasons, 5 at max. And I really doubt this will break the trend.

That doesn't mean they should be creatively bankrupt and rehash one thing over and over.
But hey if all you want is corporate bland mediocre stuff there's tons of it around.

Aha. I was not aware of that criteria, I was thinking of the weekly Nielsen report. In that case, the above comment is absolutely meaningless.

Where's the actual data showing that it was more successful than HoTD besides your comment? I am sure you know the Nielsen list excludes HBO shows and you are not ignoring this to satisfy your made up statistics.
Edited, See below.

They are indeed going all in on genre shows but I hope they really get some good writers/showrunners. Their last attempt Peripheral had a huge budget but absolutely middling writing that completely let it down. I don't understand how skimping on scripts in mega budget shows helps. I really hope they get better because most other streamers, including HBO, are backing off of many big budget genre shows.

I love Veep, but not everything needs to be rebooted and then made mediocre for corporate cash grab. Hopefully they leave it alone.
I would much rather have a new Julia or Armando comedy than rehashing what I already like.

I think this has enough sunk cost to go till season 4, and then promptly get canned.

Most shows I watch only after they have aired a complete season, it's not to say I binge all the episodes. I really need to like a show to bother with weekly viewing. TLoU now, Succession next would be weekly.

I am with you, I watched the show without any prior knowledge. I enjoyed the noir detective half of the show far more than the sanctimonious speeches given in the courtroom so I am not particularly looking forward to the next season.

It is the most overrated generic mystery box show, relying on mystery for the sake of mystery, from last year, lol.

I would still recommend it; but obviously it has lots of open plot points so it depends on your tolerance for that.

It was very good, till the ending episodes where it became a lame anime fight for no damn reason and ignored any attempt at thematic coherence.

Your assertion that HBO will have an increased budget is just made up out of thin air - all signs squarely to the opposite.

I agree with most of what you said except that only getting movie spin-offs for genre shows is better than nothing, I would rather have nothing.

Isn't the 2023 volume also finalised way before this pivot?
I think the other big, unsaid, thing here is that they are clearly going to decrease the total volume of big budget shows that they commission. For instance, I doubt we are getting another original blockbuster sci-fi or fantasy show from HBO (or Max) under this new regime.

The problem actually exists, and is obvious in the subtext: He doesn't have enough money to do many of those kinds of shows anymore. So he's putting a PR spin on it in this article. It's fairly obvious, lol.
