Reply to comment by ViscountBurrito in LPT: If your dishes smell like detergent or have white residue, you might have hard water. If your dishwasher has its own water softener (salt dispenser), make sure it has salt and is turned on. by ViscountBurrito
The best way to rid soap smell is to stop prerinsing or use half the detergent. Too much detergent will rust racks, rot rubber pump seals.

Plumber but ask first on any experience as my old plumber was somewhat green. Last id checked years ago an outfit in iowa was priced decent and can choose resin quality and capacity also timed or on demand regeneration. Youd want outside faucets bypassed.
When you take water sample in, ask about capacity needed in grains (amount of resin beads which is what pulls calcium amd iron from water.)

Fleck brand softners are best bang for buck. Take a sample of your water to a culligan or ecowater store amd have them test for free. Of course they will try to sell you their brand...

Reply to LPT dump silverware on counter from dishwasher bin before putting into utensil tray in drawer by avidoger
Having 2 or 3 silver baskets makes it even eaiser - one can sit in sink and silver popped right in at point of use. Or a clean basket of silver can sit out to pull from when needed. Saves on loading time and unloading time!

Fleck brand water softners are the best rated for performance and longevity. Plenty of info online about them and can even choose the quality of resin beads when ordering..

This. The smell alone upon opening the door will tell you dirty. This sounds like some grandma shit.

Had one of these growing up - with lots of loose powder detergent - these potscrubbers were just that! Baked and even burned on soil was no match for these on pots cycle!
Only reminder on these were tall glasses placed in corners were a no no as per all tower wash dishwashers.
After these models - never could get any ge to wash baked on soils..
