You also don’t want to discount the skill necessary to make things quirky and better, instead of quirky and worse. It sounds like your friend isn’t comfortable in their ability to get their story across using their chosen medium, and so is forced to utilise alternative methods to do so. Do you think you would have finished the book if you didn’t know the author?
