Reply to immigrant family in Cambridge by edumeneses
If you can manage to afford a place to live in Cambridge, it would be a wonderful place for you and your kids to live.

This is a great reply, except I have to add a bit of nuance to your comment that “it gets really hot, and not everyone has air conditioning.” Temperatures in the summer have certainly risen here in the past decade and will likely continue to rise, but there is no way someone from Florida is going to think summers are “really hot” here. Perhaps you only meant to say that there a few very warm days here every summer: I would agree with that. And one further thing: heat pumps are likely to take over here in the next ten years and with a heat pump comes air conditioning. that’s just the way they work.

Reply to Looking to travel up from SW Florida with my family in January. What would be the best ski resorts for family? Our kids are 2,4 and 8 and never ski before. Looking to ski and tub. by Deep_Echidna1306
Consider Bromley Mountain in Peru: a great family mountain, facing south (which can help on a really cold day). Great family atmosphere and just right for kids learning to ski. Big enough but no worry about getting lost from each other. Not sure about tubing, but near lots of other, larger ski mountains a short drive away. Town of Manchester with lots of restaurants, shopping, first rate bookstore is very nearby.

I understand that. You might find it interesting to look up traffic lights in The Netherlands: they are installing smart lights, super sensitive to approaching traffic (thus reducing wait times at lights) as a part of a light system that separates various traffic types (vehicular, pedestrian and cycles). A lot can be done with technology when there is a will—and some funding.

If I remember correctly, right on red came about during the oil crisis of the 1970s, probably during the Carter years, as a way to reduce consumption (less idling at the light).

Is it possible than answering these comments in the first person is part of the problem here? that you are moderating this sub on your own and are really badly in need of some advice and assistance? You need to hear other voices, other concerns and not be making decisions that affect so many others on your own.
