I don't know about best but it is the last show that I can remember that took the mantle from Melrose Place in terms of pure cheese entertainment. Even the latest reboots don't really capture that campy quality that O.C. and original Melrose Place had.

That's the thing with the Arts. It's not science, so evolution isn't a straight line. It's a series of ups and downs. Great Art made 10, 20, 100 years ago can often stand the test of time because every work is its own animal.

Luckily, there are different art styles even in manga. You might find some of the old school manga better as they often use a more stripped down style. Rumiko Takahashi is one of the best at laying out clear and concise pages to read.

Especially when money is involved and your sponsors are counting on you to perform for them to continue to make money off you (and vice versa). They don't really care if you cheat, either. They just don't want you to get caught.
I'm fairly sure a good majority of professional athletes have done or is doing something. Even if you take out the money and cheating reasoning, the schedule for most sports is brutal and using PEDs just to keep your body together is a thing. The french cyclist Jacques Anquetil said it best: "You'd have to be an imbecile or hypocrite to imagine that a professional cyclist who rides 235 days a year can hold himself together without stimulants"
You can also apply that to basketball, tennis, baseball, hockey, etc etc. We look at their 82 and 162 game schedules and sort of accept it as normal, but then when you think about it--playing all those games over the course of essentially 6 months is physically insane.

That's why I'd put Hackman above everyone else as the quintessential everyman. Balding, not really good looking (but not ugly either), doesn't do martial arts or anything, a guy you might miss in a crowd but when you see him close up there's an underrated aura of strength to him.
