What To Do When You’re Dead by Armor for Sleep. It starts off with the first song being about this dude who kills himself after a break up, but he isn’t able to fully transition to the afterlife, so he spends the rest of the album as a ghost following his ex girlfriend around and observing her and how she’s coping with his death.

Kinda edge lordy and stuff, but honestly one of the best emo albums I’ve listened to

Antichrist Superstar by Marilyn Manson was written and recording over a several month period where all of the members were CONSTANTLY doing a buttload of cocaine, hydrocodone, drinking themselves stupid every night, self harm, and physically fighting eachother. The founding guitarist, Daisy Berkowitz, was fired from the band halfway through recording sessions.

Another good one is Iowa by Slipknot. Same shit as Antichrist Superstar, all of the members were sick of eachother, all were doing a shitload of drugs constantly, and Corey Taylor was in a deep spiraling alcoholic depression. Listen to the last song, the namesake “Iowa”. It’s 15 minutes long, but super dark and disturbing. When Corey went in to record vocals, he was black out drunk, puking on himself, and cutting himself in the booth - the result is that song. Shit is dark af

Listen to the album Ultraviolence. It was mostly produced by Dan Auerbach from The Black Keys and has more of a dreamy, lofi psychedelic rock feel.

“Cruel World”, “West Coast”, “Brooklyn Baby”, and “Guns & Roses” are my favorite songs on that album.

The rest of Lana’s music is good to varying degrees, but Ultraviolence is (imho) one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time

That’s an amazingly apt description - I’ve always seen her as making music for people stumbling back home in the early morning while still a little fucked up and realizing all of the shit that went down over the night but not really giving a fuck because you’re young, adventurous, and still have a little coke and tequila in your system
