My grandmother bought a bunch of acres some years back and gave a plot to my parents with the understanding that they’ll take care of her as she starts declining. It is my understanding that she gave them an actual lot on her land, and that my parents own that land. It differs from town to town so I can’t offer much advice, but it is definitely doable (and in my opinion an excellent idea)

I worked at a combo oriellys and vip - nobody I worked with that didn’t do their own work went to vip. I’d used them a few times with no issue but they are def trained to upsell for things that don’t super need fixing.

I don’t think he dressed as a ww2 soldier though. That would have been way before his time, and that dude just seemed like he was not super mentally sound and retreated.

I’m a born and bred mainah and it took Gordon Ramsay being bitchy on kitchen nightmares for me to realize the “shepherds pie” I grew up with was technically a cottage pie. Since then I’ve made the pie with both lamb and beef. It’s pretty much the same. I call it all shepherds pie. I am an idiot sandwich and proud.

My family doesn’t really have a recipe, but here’s our process: Brown some ground beef, stick in some onions, celery, carrots, garlic, and diced tomatoes. Then add some canned termaters, oil, and a fuckload of pepper. When these are soft, add in elbow macaroni and mix. Simmer until the flavor can soak into the pasta then serve.

It’s a classic and absolutely fuckin slaps on a cold day.

It’s seriously unsafe. I’ve also been on the end of a lineup on a hill where someone decided to be ~super safe~ and slid down the hill and it’s fuckin terrifying. At that point it doesn’t even matter how far back you are from the car in front of you or how defensive a driver you are, it’s fuckin dangerous.

I lived in Texas for a harrowing two years and whenever I flew home and had a connection to Portland, I always knew my gate. Met a lot of really interesting people that way - shoutout to the leatherworking and flannel wearing old Mainer who talked with me about boots and the Haystack lesbian and flannel wearing old Mainer who talked with me about art.

I understand your apprehension, but going significantly below the speed of your fellow drivers can be dangerous too.

If you’re genuinely worried about your speed in weather like this, please take side roads or pull to the side when there are a bunch of cars behind you and then get back on the road when it’s clear for you to do so.

I, and many other Mainers, not only learned to drive in these conditions, but have a lot of experience in them. We know how to drive safely in snow. If you do not, you should not be on frequently travelled roads in these conditions.
