See if you can purchase MAX cases in the US. I use them in the U.K. for transporting expensive tools and the quality is superior to Pelican cases (better hinges/better latches).
For your purposes “pick and pluck” foam would be sufficient for protection.

Loads of hotels use Henry Hoovers, I’ve noticed, which is a good indication of standing up under hard use

I’ll second this. I have a Bellroy slim sleeve and have had it for quite some time and it’s almost as good as new. Lasting so well and I just love it.

I have the men’s equivalent and it has lasted very well. I send it for repair/rewax to the Barbour factory (Jarrow, UK) and comes back as good as new.
Very water resistant and good warmth for a relatively thin jacket.

For the EU, look at stainless steel Le cruisset pans. Costly, but very solid and bulletproof. I’m sure these will last near a lifetime
