How in the name of god did this happen? Regardless, it seems like only the plastic part of the stick is broken. You can buy replacements, then you just have to unscrew the back and pop it on

For sure Nintendo switch. If you and your parter intend to use it, then you van see one of the thousands of "Playstation vs Xbox" debates online for more information, but yeah, for sure switch for the >13 range (not to say that you wouldn't enjoy the switch also, just that the games you choose to get on it probably wouldn't be much enjoyment to you)
