All schools in my county are open in town meeting day. I've never in my life had that day off from work.

Anyone saying this isn't relevant to Vermont, take the time to read this ProPublica story. It's a few years old, but nothing has changed (except now we have to pay tuition to religious schools too): https://www.propublica.org/article/voucher-program-helps-well-off-vermonters-pay-prep-school-at-public-expense

Mainly because tuition is only available in certain towns. If you want to give every Vermont school kid $17K off their Swiss boarding school, that's great. But right now certain towns get vouchers and school choice, other only have public school as an option.

Unfortunately built in 2007 doesn't guarantee good insulation. Consider having HEAT Squad or Efficiency Vermont come and do an energy audit.

Extra politeness also kills pedestrians. No, I won't cross the street while the light is green so I can get hit by the car coming the opposite direction. But thanks for waving me out.

Totally different option: if you started in NYC, you could Amtrak to Middlebury. Book a place to stay in Middlebury and take the local shuttle, Tri-Valley Transit's Snow Bowl Shuttle up to Rikert Outdoor Center for the day. The bus only runs on weekends in January and February, but those are your best options for good snow anyway.

Second on the passports. Just north of Derby/Newport is the Eastern Townships - beautiful and totally worth exploring.
