Live near Frederick, would kill for metro access. We’re polling on expanding the MARC runtimes, routes, and reverse service out here and if that goes through it’ll be a huge improvement in terms of viability. Right now it’s good enough for 9-5 commuters but largely precludes use for cultural/evening events.

Live in Brunswick and commute to DC occasionally for work, and while the current hours serve that they don’t facilitate going into the city for cultural evening events or getting home late after happy hours. Really stoked about the potentiality for expanded hours and reverse peak service in this survey, and hope that wins priority over expanding routes. While I’d love ALL options to win out, implementing reverse service seems the lowest hanging fruit.

Brunswick to DC on the rare occasion I have to go in and totally agree, this route is the best. They’re actually doing an survey right now to see about expanding running hours and potentially extending access further along the corridor.

Very much agree with this. DC FEELS like an imperial city in ways that even places like London, Rome or Paris fail to do. There’s no “AHHH” moment of arrival.

This is big “guns don’t kill people” logic.
Cars sure make minor mistakes extremely deadly.

Seriously this sub is so much low effort garbage with one occasional gem every few months. Cries out for moderation.

In all seriousness, this is fantastic artwork!

Came here to say this. Cars are a blight on our urban landscape & major pedestrian shopping thoroughfares would benefit so much without them

Those people you talk about that “want a McMansion in the exurbs” aren’t using metro to get into the city. Unless you propose a taxation solution that captures drivers, you aren’t going to catch their revenue whether the fare is $3 or $50

Literally a fare collection station on the entry points would do it

This. The people relying on metro are the people least able to afford fare hikes. The people most able to afford to subsidize this system are the lobbyists and business owners driving into the city in Mercedes E class sedans.
Introduce a congestion charge on every vehicle entering the city or a flat fare on the bridges over the Potomac and watch the cash to fund Metro pile up.

Ehhhh. This argument might hold more water if DC wasn’t so sprawling. But going to Reston and the airport on the metro is different than going to bedroom communities in Stamford. There are integral parts of the city infrastructure out there.

We’re currently polling on a MARC expansion in Maryland. Who knows how long it’ll take to actually show up but the plan does exist!
