Reply to NYPD Blows Overtime Budget by Nearly $100 Million, On Pace for Record | The New York City Police Department’s budget overage defies a pledge by Mayor Eric Adams to cut overtime spending by half in his first year in office. by bloomberg
Everyone should know that 90% of cops are sick of the forced overtime.
In the NYPD, almost all overtime is forced. Ask any cop. I have 2 friends who left the job because of forced overtime, they did at least 75 hours of forced overtime a month and had no life because of it.
The real reason is upper brass and our governor and mayor don’t care about how your money is being used and don’t care about cops and don’t care about them not having a life. We have no accountability for where our money is spent in the NYPD and that is the major problem.
Just look at the forced overtime on cops standing in the subways. Ask them if they want to be there. You will get the answer of “fuck no” 99% of the time.

Serious question, part of the problem is how unattractive the job is salary wise, why doesn’t the government raise it?
For example, a city like Seattle police has a pay salary of $109k; while NYPD is at $85k, NYC definitely makes way more money than Seattle but can’t offer the same? Why is that? If the NYPD was hiring for $109k I can definitely see people applying, minus before forced for crazy amounts of overtime their entire career.
