It would have been interesting to test the pH of the rain with paper tests. While they’re not nearly as accurate as a calibrated pH meter, it could have given us an idea of the acidity of the rain water.

Rain water is typically in the 5.6 range. If it was more acidic and truly “acid rain” it would have been lower and around 4.

But yeah it would be nice if someone who has access to equipment capable of analyzing samples could tell us what the chemical content of the recent rainfall.

You may be able to find some astronomy clubs here? There are other resources online where you could find groups who meet up in the area who have star parties. You’d be surprised how many groups are out there. Even in an area like yours, especially if you live in an area with dark skies.

You could also check with your local library. Some libraries have telescopes that people can sign out. If they don’t have any telescopes, then they may know of Astronomy Clubs?

I saw the same thing twice on my way into work around 630am before we set the clocks back, so it was still dark but closer to twilight in the morning. Same thing, I was driving on 95N when I saw something really bright appear in the sky. It appeared to move to the Northeast, and I thought it was a plane heading towards Logan. To my surprise it dimmed out and totally vanished.

My thoughts were it was a satellite at an angle at that given time that was reflecting quite a bit of sunlight. It must have moved in such a way that caused it to brighten, and darken from our perspective.

I’ve seen the ISS suddenly dim as it is passing over. It behaved the same way.

Came here to say the same thing. You want dark skies in Rhode Island then this is the place.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe that the skies over Ninigret are the darkest skies you’ll find along the I-95 corridor between Boston and D.C?

Make sure you go on a night when it’s the New Moon.

Well, I mean it is true. If you’re a Trumper then you live in a much different reality than the rest of America. You may believe that is my opinion, but it seems like if others are expressing their disinterest of living around “Trumpy Italians” then it’s no longer an opinion that Trumpy people suck, it is a fact.
