Reply to comment by TheJBW in TIL of John R. Baylor the self-proclaimed 'governor' of Arizona who was a Confederate Colonel whose self-appointment was later approved by Jefferson Davis. Baylor gave orders to exterminate the indigenous Apache and when Davis got wind of it he rescinded the orders as well as Baylor's governorship. by ChronosBlitz
Strong King Leopold and the Congo vibes.
Europe was like: "What the fuck Leopold, colonise the Congo but that's extreme even for us."

Reply to TIL a German scientist named Alfred Wegener was ridiculed in 1912 for advancing the idea that the continents were adrift. Ridiculed as having “wandering pole plague.” or “Germanic pseudo-science” and accused Wegener of toying with the evidence to spin himself into “a state of auto-intoxication." by Hot----------Dog
And no, anti-vaxxers, this doesn't mean you're right. Your claims are still ludicrous and backed by falsehoods you choose to believe because it supports your beliefs.

Reply to TIL that "Lilo & Stitch" (2002) used exclusively watercolor backgrounds, since Disney, after some failures, was investing in other projects. This was later called a "hand drawn miracle". by starring2
The 2000s weren't a good decade for Disney's own animated films and really, Lilo and Stitch was probably the best animated film released by them in that decade.
I don't count Pixar as that was made under their name and Disney didn't formally acquire Pixar until the middle of the decade.
